For my students

Hello students of listening and speaking!! I hope that this can be a good resource for you to practice listening and speaking in your (very little) free time. This page will mostly include links to other websites where you can listen to authentic English materials in many different voices, accents, styles, and genres. I hope you enjoy it!

Mad Libs

Mad libs are short stories with a number of words missing. (6D2, you may remember this from the class on -ed verbs) The website allows you to choose what kind of story you would like to create. Then the website asks you for a series of words (for example, “a noun” or “a verb”) After you type in all of the words, the website will show you the story you created with your words. It is usually pretty funny.

Accented English: The Speech Accent Archive

This website provides clips of accented English from all over the world. You can listen to native and non-native speakers reading the same paragraph in order to listen to the differences in their pronunciation. It is also good for you to practice your own pronunciation (if you use standard American English or British, such as the clips from the central US or Ireland).
